Visiting Alerce Andino National Park

Imagen lateral

We are deep in the heart of Alerce Andino National Park, located in the Los Lagos Region in  southern Chile. Salto Las Chaicas is one of those hidden spots that stays with you long after your visit.

Coming here feels like stepping into a different rhythm of life—where the misty air of the Valdivian temperate rainforest blends with the soothing sound of water falling over ferns and moss. This natural wonder is found in the Chaicas sector of the park, about 22 miles (36 kilometers) south of Puerto Montt along the scenic Route 7. From the small town of Lenca, a 2.5-mile (12-kilometer) gravel road leads you into a lush landscape of deep green forests,  crystalclear rivers, and a true sense of unplugging from the world.

The closest airport is El Tepual International Airport, with direct connections via Santiago. The drive takes roughly an hour and a half. Once inside the park, the trail to the waterfall is a moderate 2.5-mile (4- kilometer) round trip—perfect for those looking for an easygoing hike with an unforgettable  reward.

Salto Las Chaicas is just the beginning. Nearby, you’ll also find Laguna Sargazo, the trail to the Millennial Alerce, and connections to other park sectors like Correntoso and the Chaicas River Valley.

This is a region of untouched natural beauty that invites you to explore slowly—and breathe deeply.
